Do you have a Burst or Split Pipe?
A burst or split pipe can release a surprising amount of water. If it is safe to do so, turn off the water supply at the stopcock, keep people clear of wet electrical areas and call DHS Plumbing to explain what has happened. We will discuss the property location, the affected pipe and current availability.

What to do first
Turn off the main water supply if you can reach the stopcock safely. Open a cold tap to help drain remaining water, where appropriate. Move belongings away from the water and use towels or a container to limit damage. Do not touch electrical equipment or switches affected by water. If you cannot isolate the water or the situation poses an immediate danger, contact the relevant utility or emergency service.
Repairing damaged pipework
Pipes may split after freezing, become damaged during building work or fail at a joint or connection. The repair depends on the pipe material, accessibility and extent of damage. DHS Plumbing can assess the affected domestic plumbing and explain whether a local repair or replacement section is suitable. If a concealed pipe needs to be exposed, we will discuss access before work proceeds.
After the leak is contained
The visible break may not be the only concern. Ask us about checking nearby joints and fittings, particularly after freezing. Drying and repairs to floors, plaster or electrics may need other specialists. If the problem is a slow or hidden leak rather than a burst pipe, see Water Leak Repairs.
